I selected Citibank to open up a new current account (personal) to consolidate all existing bank accounts and the choice was primarily due to the International benefits and value offered by the bank.
So I take my original passport and visit the Citibank near Wafi only to be turned back with an application form and asked to get my trade license copy. Fair enough, I fill in the form and go visit the bank street branch in Burdubai this time hoping to find some parking space (which I did to my surprise!).
I was with the banking officer in a matter of minutes and was moved to another officer after I said no to citigold service requirement. The second officer reviewed my application and queried me on how I obtained the application form. After learning that I collected the application form from the Wafi branch, she smiled and asked why did I not go back to the same branch.. ? Not taking that question too seriously I smiled back and joked “they are too busy at that branch”…
After going through my application she started asking questions around whether the trade license was valid, my period of engagement with the firm, etc. and then asked whether I had all the originals: passport and emirates ID to which I said yes.
Now she continues to go trough the information I filled and then throws another question — do I have an account with another bank? And then asked whether I can provide the original bank statements. No I didn’t have the bank statements with me at the time and I asked why was this being requested? the reply – ” this is a new process” — a new process which the other branch did not made me aware of when providing me with the application.
I returned home and wondered whether I made the right choice and have already started looking at options by the bank that starts with the letter “H”.
